The St George Region has officially been hooked, with excitement sweeping across all seven towns following the Great Hook Drop.
Locals and visitors alike discovered hidden hooks in secret key locations. Each one revealing clues, sparking curiosity and inviting people to explore the region in a fun and interactive way. Among the discoveries were three coveted Golden Hooks, rewarding lucky participants and marking the official start of the 2026 I Got Hooked on St George Region Scavenger Hunt.
Mayor Samantha O’Toole said the response was immediate, with a real sense of energy and excitement felt right across the region. And with the hooks now discovered, the adventure is only just beginning.
Running through to the end of October, the region-wide scavenger hunt encourages participants to explore all seven towns – St George, Dirranbandi, Bollon, Hebel, Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi – while solving clues and uncovering unique local landmarks along the way. It’s designed to be enjoyed at your own pace, whether you’re travelling solo, with friends, or bringing the whole family along for the ride.
The concept is simple: solve the riddles, work out the landmark, snap a photo, post to your social media with the hashtag #IGotHooked and collect a colourful fish token representing each town. As you journey across the region, you’ll build your collection – each token a small reminder of the places you’ve explored and the memories you’ve made. Complete all seven and you’ll not only take home a special “I Got Hooked” keyring, but also go into the draw for prizes.
More than just a game, the scavenger hunt is a celebration of everything that makes the St George Region special. From iconic landmarks and stunning murals to historic pubs, rivers and wide-open landscapes, each clue leads you somewhere worth discovering, showcasing the region’s natural beauty, community spirit and hidden gems.
If you missed the Great Hook Drop, it’s not too late to get involved. The I Got Hooked Scavenger Hunt is now live from the 1st of June to the 31st of October, and everyone is invited to join in, hit the road and see what you can find.
So take your time, follow the clues, and enjoy the journey, you might just find yourself well and truly hooked on the St George Region.
