March is all about history and heritage in Thallon, with the Rail Heritage Centre opening and vintage train tours rolling through town. If you love nostalgia and country hospitality, this is the month to visit.

April brings rural traditions to life across the region. Dirranbandi hosts its annual Easter Fishing Competition and the Dirranbandi Show & Campdraft, showcasing horsemanship, livestock, and country skills. Over Easter, St George’s Riversands Easter in the Vines fills the vineyards with live music and family-friendly fun, while the Balonne Branch ASH Campdraft & Show highlights the iconic Australian stock horse.

May is when the Community spirit shines. St George celebrates its annual Agricultural Show, a favourite with rides, ring events, local exhibits, and fireworks. Hebel Hotel hosts its Speed Shears, a fast-paced shearing showdown. Later in the month, Mungindi comes alive for the Mungindi Border Battle, a friendly cross‑border competition full of community pride.

June warms up the winter with music in St George at Jammo’s Yellowbelly Country Music Festival, bringing together talented artists, country tunes, and a relaxed outback atmosphere perfect for chilly evenings.

July is race season in Mungindi, where the Mungindi Races deliver classic outback racing. Hebel kicks things off with the Hebel Campdraft, followed by the Mungindi Show, a classic country show filled with competitions, displays, and family fun. Later in the month, horsepower takes centre stage with the St George 399, a major motorsport drawcard. Thallon delivers big entertainment with the Thallon Truck Pull, while riders and spectators head to Dirranbandi for the Dirranbandi Campdraft. Running throughout the month, the Balonne River Cutters Horse Futurity showcases exceptional horsemanship and impressive young horses.

September means Spring – Bringing with it a fresh burst of energy to the region. Nindigully hosts its annual Campdraft, where talented stockmen and women put their skills on display. Racing fans look forward to the St George Cup Races, a highlight for anyone who enjoys country fashion and trackside excitement. Bollon adds to the action with its Campdraft and Rodeo, a lively weekend combining skilled riding, roping, and classic outback rodeo thrills, while Storyfest – South West returns to St George, bringing storytelling, workshops, and creativity to local communities.

October is packed with fun, fundraising, and friendly competition across the St George Region. Nindigully draws big crowds for its much‑loved Pig Races, a weekend filled with laughter, live music, and riverside camping. St George welcomes anglers for the St George annual Fishing Competition, while the Battle on the Balonne Backwards Triathlon brings fierce competition for all ages. Golfers also flock to town for the Dragon Country Sandgreen Cup, held at the highly regarded St George Golf Course – one of Queensland’s best sandgreen courses and a favourite for players of all abilities.

November and December– As the year winds down with relaxed community gatherings and festive celebrations across all towns. It’s the perfect time to soak up warm evenings, friendly crowds, and the laid‑back charm that makes the St George Region so special.
